What makes a company 'A Good Responsible Company'?
Deborah Robinson from Australian Women Online reflects on how iBidAM.com goes beyond the call of duty in corporate responsibility. And where does beyond begin? Shouldn't 'ALL we can' be simply 'All we do'?
"Single mum Louise Schultze (pictured with her son Lochlan) has created the largest online database of Australian advertising, marketing and business services, allowing consumers to obtain competitive quotes in one easy application, effectively removing the time consuming and traditional method of ringing around for the best quote...."
"The concept and design of iBidAM.com came from the demand of these industries to cut the costs of their advertising and marketing budgets, but still maximise the coverage to their clients and prospect market. However, like most in the advertising/marketing industries and small business owners, there isn’t enough time to ring several printers and designers to compare costs every time they need a job done. Briefing one supplier to quote is often time consuming enough......... However, this business goes a step further; using the success of the company to realise ......... a new Salem Australia Welfare Refuge initiative."
".... as Louise has launched and continues to manage IbidAM.com as a sustainable profit making initiative. The dividends of Louise’s 60% share in IbidAM.com are allocated to the construction and maintenance of a Salem Australia children’s refuge centre, with support funding to be campaigned for with local and government grants."
In this full article Deborah describes a personal story, but not unlike many of our own. We get up, we go to work, we take care of our loved ones, we delve in a little passion and play and then we go to bed. This cycle repeats most days of our adult life. The impact of our success has always been heavily geared toward what we receive, achieve and retain. What is our net wealth? Shouldn't that define our success and shouldn't our responsibility to ourselves be one that holds these achievements dear to our hearts?
I tend to always find myself asking, what is my net worth? How does all that I have impact my life in a way that i can be proud to show my son? And net to me means all that i encapsulate as a person. Sarah McLachlan says "the fortunes of one man means less for some". Couldn't it be that we choose to be selfish in a good way? And say 'No Sarah - you're wrong! The fortunes of one man can mean more for everyone, because simply it feels so damn good, so incredibly better when people genuinly thank you, not envy you!
Happy to call it responsibility. The child in me prefers to say, cause I can! The woman in me, says, I just do it cause it feels good!
